Speaking as a former harbor master, operator of cargo ships, and a military specialist on the Mideast, the current war in Iran is a fool's errand. The much-ballyhooed Strait of Hormuz is only 33 odd kilometers wide and averages only 220 meters deep. It's a bottom-scraper for the huge oil tankers that use it. What will happen if the Iranians scuttle one or two large tankers in these narrow waters ? The Egyptians did so in 1956 in Suez and jammed up world oil traffic for months.

For many years I have expressed concern that Western Civilization was being destroyed intentionally from within by failing to convey the civilization's achievements to succeeding generations via education. Instead, education was used to alienate generations from their own civilization by stressing evils such as wars, slavery, oppression of blacks and women, oppression of other peoples as the result of colonial rule, abuse of children by parents, religious prejudices, class prejudices, and so on.

As tensions escalated during the Yom Kippur War when the Arab Coalition launched a surprise attack against Israel, OPEC nations joined forces to cut off oil to Israeli allies including the US. This froze around 15% of oil exports to America, triggering market speculation, hording and price inflation.
